UAB Brainhack
Check out the short YouTube video on some of the cool things our research team is working on. It is another example of empowering greatness in others by accelerating their research from 21 days per cycle to 2 days.
Unlimited Email
Unleashing the full power of our faculty, researchers, and students to change the world starts with freeing them from the mundane tasks of academia. One of those tasks is managing email quotas. Why would I have a genomic engineer stop his research to manage his mailbox? See this pithy YouTube video on what we have done over the last two years.

2016 Top Professor
2016 proved to be a very good year in terms of effectiveness in the classroom and online at Georgia State University. Of the 90 professors in the Computer Information Systems department, I was ranked #1 by the students in overall teaching effectiveness. Much more to do to improve my effectiveness in the classroom but I was honored to be recognized by the students.
Brain Tumor Challenge
UAB was successful in winning a Grand Challenge in medicine – the analysis of 118,000 MRI images in less than 48 hours for the detection of tumors. A very short YouTube video describes the challenge.
Top Professor Award
It appears the students at Georgia State in the Master’s of Information Systems Core have voted me the top professor for 2016. It is humbling to receive such an award from the students. I have always strove to be the professor that makes a difference. I remain deeply appreciative of Georgia State in providing me the opportunity to continue to give back to the community as a clinical professor.
Research Computing
As part of the Dell Super Computing conference in December 2016, Dell released a video highlighting research computing at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. You can watch the video at YouTube.
