It appears the students at Georgia State in the Master’s of Information Systems Core have voted me the top professor for 2016. It is humbling to receive such an award from the students. I have always strove to be the professor that makes a difference. I remain deeply appreciative of Georgia State in providing me the opportunity to continue to give back to the community as a clinical professor.

As part of the Dell Super Computing conference in December 2016, Dell released a video highlighting research computing at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. You can watch the video at  YouTube.

I collaborate throughout the year with the Enterpriser’s Project. Their top ten posts for 2016 are a collection of good reads. Coming in 2nd for the year, an article I wrote on 18 month organization charts was apparently well received.

We recently upgraded the University of Alabama at Birmingham to dual 100 gigabits per second internet connectivity. You can read the local UAB story, or one of two NBC stories (story 2) to learn more.

The local Fox news WBRC ran a story on our attempts to deploy active phishing training to the University of Alabama at Birmingham. It is a good story with a random student endorsement.

The ridiculously good Redhat Enterpriser’s Project conducted an interview with several CIOs to examine the HR crisis in IT and solicit tips for attracting the best talent. It’s a good article (other than my part) and worthy of the read.

The Educational Advisory Board conducted an interview reviewing my first 100 days as a CIO at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. It gave me an opportunity to talk about the importance of crowd-sourcing as a tool of the modern CIO. Read it and let me know what you think.

One of the projects I have been recently involved with is empowering greatness in others by giving them the tools they need to change the world. It comes from the realization that I am the dumbest guy in the room but there are things I can do to support others. At UAB, this led to securing the necessary resources and building the fastest high performance research computer in the state. The ribbon cutting was Sept 14th and it has received some news coverage including all four major TV stations covering it in the evening news and the articles listed below. Who would have thought high performance computing would be in the local news?
